Spring has sprung and the bears are back!

bears

As spring has arrived, bears are now out of hibernation and are actively searching for food in our community. It is important to maintain safety measures to ensure the safety of both humans and bears. Here are some tips to help you stay safe during bear season, which runs from now until December:
🐻 Store your garbage in a secure location, and only put it out on the morning of collection day.
🐻 Keep your barbecue clean and stored in a secure location away from your home.
🐻 Do not leave pet food or bird seed outside.
🐻 Keep your compost secure and enclosed.
🐦 Bird feeders must be removed (to help reduce the spread of avian flu and they are a high attractant for bears, deer, raccoons, skunks and rats)
🐻 If you see a bear, give it space and do not approach it.
By taking these precautions, we can help prevent conflicts with bears and ensure their safety, as well as ours. Let's work together to keep our community safe for all.
If there is an immediate risk to life and safety by an aggressive bear to a person or gaining or attempting to gain entry to a residence, business or vehicle, call 📞911.
If you see a bear in the area where none of the above criteria are met, contact BC Conservation RAPP Hotline at 📞1-877-952-7277 or online at https://forms.gov.bc.ca/environment/rapp/
To report unkept wildlife attractants, contact our Bylaw Department at 📞250-505-5666
