Glass is not permitted in your Blue Bin!
The City of Nelson’s curbside recycling program operates under an agreement with RecycleBC which does not accept any glass in the curbside blue bins.
Why?
Glass easily breaks and contaminates other recyclables and the City’s recycling trucks. This means an entire truckload of recycling would need to be landfilled should broken glass contaminate a load. RecycleBC completes regular audits of the City’s recycling, and when glass and other contaminants are found in our recycling, the City faces stiff fines that will negatively impact the affordability of our curbside collection service.
How do I recycle my glass?
If you have non-refundable glass bottles and jars, you can bring them to the RDCK Nelson Recycling Depot at 70 Lakeside Drive from Monday to Saturday
8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Refundable items can be brought to participating outlets for a refund such as the Nelson Leafs Depot in Railtown.
