[ARCHIVED] Water Meter Installation Program continues for Industrial, Commercial and Institutional

2018_Public_Notice

The City of Nelson is initiating the final phase of the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (ICI) water meter installation program. A water meter is required in every (ICI) business serviced by the water utility, as it accurately measures your water consumption. As with the previous two phases, the data collected from the meters is currently being used to detect leaks and encourage water conservation. This mandatory program is in accordance with Bylaw 3092 Schedule H, “The City reserves the right to meter any water service at its sole discretion”.

The City of Nelson has contracted Neptune Technology Group to conduct the third and final phase of the ICI. This is a very select, targeted program, not a city-wide program, so the information is going to less than 200 properties selected for meters. The vast majority of Nelson is unaffected by the program.

The water-use data collected from the meters is:

  • used to detect leaks
  • encourages water conservation
  • helps to manage water use, which makes it fairer for everyone
  • using less water can reduce the costs associated with upgrading or expanding water and wastewater facilities

Providing information to the affected commercial buildings/businesses.

Part 1 - From the City – week of December 2, 2019

Introductory letters, from the City, informing the selected property owners that a meter install program is forthcoming, are being hand-delivered this week.

Part 2 – From the Contractor – upcoming weeks

Future letters will come directly from Neptune, asking those selected ICI properties to book appointments for meter install.  Neptune is planning to mobilize to Nelson in the second week of January 2020.

This is a 2” t-10 water meter. It is the most common meter that will be installed for our commercial businesses. The black component is an integrated register (E-Coder –R900i), as it is a radio frequency read. This means, meters can be read remotely so there is no need to access the meter once it is installed.
