Hall Street Update October 29 to Nov 3, 2018
The
Canadian Pacific Railway crews have completed works to upgrade both the Cedar
Street and Hall Street rail crossings. The CPR works necessitated full road closures
to install large pre-cast concrete panels alongside the rails. Coordination
with the paving company was also critical in order to complete the asphalt
tie-in between the new panels and the existing asphalt while the road was
closed for CP work. With this work complete, major traffic disruption between
Front and Lakeside, on Cedar and Hall has come to an end.
McNally
Excavating this past week has been working on the east side of the parking lot
at the foot of Hall Street. The existing asphalt surface has been stripped off,
electrical infrastructure installed, and tram shelter relocated. Pavers
continue to be laid between the large concrete slabs, landscapers continue with
topsoil and plantings, and hydro seeding has been completed. An additional concrete
slab is prepared at the SW corner of the Prestige banquet wing/parking lot
access and this access will remain closed while the concrete cures. Next week,
the majority of the work will remain focused in the parking area, primarily on
the east side of the lot, where storm infrastructure and shallow electrical
infrastructure is to be installed prior to the install of curbs. The last of
the curbing is to be installed next week, followed by pavement. Access to
the parking lot will be difficult at times, as only one of the two access
points to the lot will be open. Early in the week, the access immediately
adjacent to the Prestige will be closed. Later in the week, the access near the
tram shelter at Lakeside Drive will be temporarily closed. McNally will erect detour
and custom signage while working on the accesses and will endeavor to maintain
access to the wharf and boathouses.
Marwest
Industries, working to the south side of the intersection at Hall and Front
Street, have completed the deep utility infrastructure work and the majority of
the shallow work as well. The signals at the intersection have been installed,
the street lights are on, and some curbing has been started. The east access to
the West Arm Plaza will remain closed next week as this access is to be
replaced with new concrete. Next week the remainder of the shallow utilities,
including third party works by Fortis Gas will be complete and the remainder of
the curb and gutter is scheduled to be installed in preparation for asphalt.
The traffic signals are to be operational by the end of next week as well.
Speed readers have been installed on Front Street, either side of
Marwest’s worksite to remind motorists that the speed limit in the construction
zone is 30 km/h. The City also requests that drivers and pedestrians utilize
caution while traveling through this busy area and to follow the signs and
direction provided by the flaggers.
