Stores-To-Shores Hall Street Project Update – Week of May 14 – 18, 2018

The City would like to thank everyone that participated in the Stakeholder Meeting of May 4th – the feedback received during the meeting was productive and the City has made adjustments to project signage and the layout of traffic delineators. While not all of the suggestions have been put into action at this time, the City will continue to monitor the performance of the detour route and will make further adjustments as warranted.

This past week has been a busy week in the Hall Street project. Our Contractor (McNally) has been able to proceed with the extension of the storm water piping through the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Hall Street. The City has also been working with McNally to identify the origin of storm water that was observed to originate from some historical piping that had been previously abandoned. Finding the origin of this water was important in order to redirect it away the excavation area.

In order to aid in reducing dust at the intersection of Hall and Lakeside, a temporary asphalt patch was placed in the intersection to reduce the tracking of dust from the site.

The work that will proceed into the Week of May 14th includes:

  • The Contractor will be working through the weekend to continue with the installation of the storm water piping in the 100 Block of Hall Street;
  • The Contractor will proceed with electrical servicing work as progress on the storm water piping progresses;
  • Survey layout of the curb and gutter;
  • Backfilling, electrical work and concrete form work will continue for the water front steps.; and
  • Preparation of the site for the instillation of the storm and sanitary piping under the CP tracks.

The City and CP are currently making preparations to begin the installation of storm and sanitary piping under the CP crossing, tentatively scheduled to start May 22nd. This work will be done in conjunction with CP as the City’s Contractor will install the piping and the work required to restore the rail will be performed by CP. Undertaking the crossing work in this manner is projected to reduce the amount of time to conduct these crossings.

In preparation for the next phase of the project, ongoing discussions with the Phase 2C Contractor (Marwest) indicate that their current plan is to start at the south side of the CP tracks. Marwest is currently projecting a start date of June 15th. Marwest has also indicated that they are currently working on their traffic management plan. The City will provide additional information about this work as it becomes available.
