Do not go within 10 metres of a downed power line.***Nelson and area have experienced an intense windstorm event, with wind gusts continuing to cause hazardous conditions for residents and crews. There have been widespread power outages throughout the Nelson Hydro service area. There has been extensive damage to power lines and poles along with numerous trees down on roadways impacting powerlines and limiting access for repair crews. Highways and roadways have been heavily impacted with Highway 3A along the North Shore from Nelson experiencing serious blockages. At the time of this release, traffic is experiencing blockages near the Nasookin at 4 Mile heading east from Nelson along the North Shore. We advise motorists to check DriveBC for up-to-date information. Nelson Hydro has secured additional contract powerline technician crews, with additional crews arriving tomorrow. As well, City of Nelson arborists and contractors are currently clearing trees, so hydro crews can access damaged lines.Crews continue to assess and repair the damage. WIND STORM UPDATE - April 22, 2021 at 8:45am Power has been restored to most customers in our service area.There is currently a total of six customers without power, plus the CBC Tower on Mount Nelson.Line crews continue their work in the Grohman area today. There are five customers without power in Grohman.We have one customer without power on South Poplar Street at Mountain Station.Crews will continue to patrol the lines for any further storm damage and make repairs as necessary on a priority basis.The Mount Nelson CBC repeater tower site will have staff attend the site by helicopter today to assess the damage to the conductor that feeds the tower. There is currently a total of 24 customers without power.Our technicians have been reaching out to customers on an individual basis to address concerns and resolve issues.Line crews are continuing their work in the Grohman area today. As of this afternoon, there are still 6 customers without power in Grohman.Hydro line crews will be working into the evening to restore power to customers still without power.The Mount Nelson CBC repeater tower site will be scheduled for repair on Friday this week. Crews are still working to restore power to several customers near Taghum Beach.Line crews are continuing their work in the Grohman area today and will be in that area until Friday. Customers will have power restored on an individual basis as the work progresses over the next few days.Svoboda Road residents - Crews will be in that area in the next few hours and will have power restored for this evening.Damage to secondary lines has left some areas still without power. WIND STORM UPDATE - April 19, 2021 @1:00pmNelson Hydro continues to clean up storm debris and restore power with the assistance of additional contract crews and arborist crews.Outages include the North Shore from the seven hundred block of highway 3A, all the way to Coffee Creek and including Balfour, Harrop and Procter. FortisBC is currently working to return the power supply to Coffee Creek which supplies the North Shore to Redfish Creek.FortisBC has completed their flight over the lines coming into Coffee Creek from the West and found a number of trees down on the lines. BC Hydro also has crews surveying the lines coming from the east into Coffee Creek.A number of power poles were replaced on the NorthShore last night with crews working until 3:00am. The damage on the Northshore from approximately sixteen hundred Highway 3A at the Blaylock Estates out to the six mile area is more extensive. Damage has been cleaned up between the Blaylock Estates and Nasookin Road area. Additional line crews have now been dispatched to this area to repair the damage and will be putting in all efforts to have power restored. Once this work is complete, Nelson Hydro will be able to restore power to much of the Northshore service area. We will provide an update when we have an estimate of restoration time.Blewett road is now restored. Granite Road and Georama Road should have their power restored shortly. There will still be approximately twenty customers on Granite Road without power until tomorrow morning.The Grohman community's power will be restored once crews have cleared multiple fallen trees and the line crew has access to the area.
