2022 GENERAL LOCAL ELECTION
The nomination period closed on September 9, 2022 at 4:00 PM and the Declaration of Candidates was made by the Corporate Officer. The Declaration is available to view here: Declaration of Candidates (September 9, 2022)
General Local Elections are held once every four years. The next general election will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Prestige Lakeside Resort & Convention Centre, 701 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, BC.
There are two ADVANCE VOTING DAYS on October 5 and 12th, 2022. The advance voting will take place in Council Chambers on the 2nd Floor of City Hall (310 Ward St.) in Nelson, BC between 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.
In Nelson, eligible voters will elect:
- 1 Mayor
- 6 Councillors
- 2 Trustees to the School District No. 8 Board of Education
Who is eligible to run for office?
You are qualified to be nominated, elected and hold office as a member of local government if you meet the following criteria:
You do not have to live in the jurisdiction in which you are running for office.

Two Advance Voting opportunities will be held at City Hall, 2nd Floor, Council Chambers, on October 5, 2022, and October 12, 2022, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

The Nomination period begins at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, and goes through Friday, September 9, 2022, at 4:00 PM.
When will nomination packages be available?
Nomination packages will be available for pick up at Nelson City Hall, 101, 310 Ward Street, Nelson, British Columbia, as of July 22, 2022. Individuals requesting a nomination package must obtain the information from the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Elections Officer.
