TAKE NOTICE that the Corporation of the City of Nelson proposes to amend the Zoning Bylaw No. 3199, 2013.
The Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 3512, 2021 proposes a number of housekeeping and general citywide amendments, including removing the maximum gross floor area restriction for laneway houses, defining and prohibiting of “industrial-scale computing”, and permitting a secondary suite within a laneway house. The Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 3521, 2021 proposes to increase the current cap of two cannabis retail stores in the downtown to three by reallocating the permitted space on Nelson Avenue to the downtown, thereby maintaining a citywide cap of 5 cannabis retail stores. Nelson City Council will hold a Public Hearing for the proposed amendments on Tuesday, March 9th, 2021 at 6:00 pm, held virtually online and can be viewed via nelson.civicweb.net at which time and place all persons who deem their interest in property affected by the amending bylaws may be heard on matters contained therein. Written submissions for or against the proposed amendments can be read or verbal submissions made at the Public Hearing.
Due to the COVID-19 public health orders, the Public Hearing will take place via video conference. No in-person attendance will be permitted. If you would like to comment on either of the amending bylaws, you are encouraged to submit your comments in writing. Deliver by mail or by hand to:

If you prefer to speak rather than write in, you must register in advance by contacting the Development Services department. The City will provide you with instructions on how to participate via computer or phone.
The deadline to provide written submissions or to register to speak live is 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Monday, March 8, 2021.
