2023 Community Service (Volunteer) Vacancies

Each year the City invites residents interested in serving the community and participating in the direction that the City of Nelson takes for the future, to apply to serve on a City Board, Committee or Commission. 

Applications can be submitted via email or in person.  The deadline to apply for the Library Board is 4:30 PM on September 16, 2022; the deadline for any other Committee/Commission is 4:30 PM on October 28, 2022.  Please address confidential applications to: Gabriel Bouvet-Boisclair, Deputy Corporate Officer, City of Nelson, Suite 101, 310 Ward Street, Nelson BC V1L 5S4.  Applications submitted by email may be submitted to: dco@nelson.ca

Nelson Public Library Board [NPL]

The Library Board represents the diversity of the community, acts in a position of trust and is responsible for the effective and ethical governance of the Library, The Board sets the strategic direction for the library and monitors its progress while supporting the work of the Chief Librarian. Board participation includes monthly meetings, committee work and periodic special events. Nelson Housing Committee [NHC]

This Committee provides information and expertise to Council on a variety of housing issues.  Its mandate is to identify housing needs and priorities; assist in finding collaborative and cost effective approaches; and provide networking opportunities for housing providers to share knowledge and identify opportunities for collaboration; cooperation and sharing of expertise.  See the Nelson Housing Committee Bylaw on the City’s website for further information.

Cultural Development Committee [CDC]

This Committee leads Council in the strategic planning and development of Nelson’s cultural sector and works in close collaboration with all sectors of the community.  The Committee helps promote a high level of creativity, diversity and excellence in the cultural life of Nelson.  Part of its mandate is to review, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the City’s Comprehensive Cultural Policy and make recommendation to Council on a variety of policy and initiatives pertaining to the arts, culture and heritage sectors.  See the Cultural Development Committee Bylaw on the City’s website for further information.

Advisory Planning Commission [APC]

The role of the Advisory Planning Commission is to advise Council on matters referred to the Commission which includes land use, project design and landscaping, community planning as well as bylaws and permits relevant to land use provisions of the Local Government Act.  See the Advisory Planning Commission Bylaw on the City’s website for further information.
